Control Your Content: Tag-Based Opt-Out for Subscribers using Segments

Want to give your subscribers more control over the emails they receive—without losing them from your list? With automated workflows, you can let subscribers opt out of specific email campaigns while still receiving the content they want.

If you’re using Campaigns, you can set up an automation that removes subscribers from a Campaign based on a tag.

For example, say you’re running a seasonal sales campaign. You can allow subscribers to opt out of that series specifically by clicking a link in your email (a different link than the unsubscribe link). This action adds a tag that removes them from the sales campaign while keeping them subscribed to your regular newsletter. They’ll stop receiving promotional emails but continue to get your Broadcasts—giving them the perfect balance of content!

With tags, you can also create a segment* of subscribers who should only receive your general emails while excluding them from other types of messages. When scheduling Broadcasts, simply send them to the specific segment—ensuring you’re only emailing those who actually want to hear from you.

*Note: You’ll need a paid AWeber plan to create segments.

Are you already using this strategy in your email marketing? Are you looking to try this out for yourself? How do you plan to tailor it to your audience? Let’s chat and share insights—drop your thoughts below!

This is such a smart way to keep subscribers engaged while reducing unnecessary unsubscribes! I love how automation makes it easy to tailor content without overwhelming the audience.

One thing I’ve found effective is using engagement-based tagging. For example, if a subscriber hasn’t opened the last few promotional emails, an automation can tag them as “less engaged” and automatically remove them from future sales campaigns while keeping them on the main list. This way, you’re focusing promotions on those most interested while maintaining a strong, engaged audience.

Excited to see how others are using these features! :rocket: :chart_with_upwards_trend:
