Workflows - how long can we use one workflow?

Can a workflow be ongoing for a long period of time, ie. weeks, months, years?

Hello Sue,

Yes, workflows can be ongoing for a long period of time. You would be able to have a workflow that lasts for weeks, months and even years!

The only limit for workflows is the number of steps within it. You can have a maximum of 500 steps per workflow. A step refers to any individual action in your workflow, such as sending a message, applying a tag, or adding a wait period. If you reach this limit, you won’t be able to add additional steps until some are removed.

If you do need to have a workflow that has more than 500 steps within it, you can pass subscribers from the end of one workflow to the beginning of another in order to continue the series. This is typically done by applying a tag in the final step of the first workflow, which then starts a second workflow that starts when that tag is applied.

If you have any other questions, please let us know!

Thanks so much Heather. I’ll see how I go with the number of steps. I’m not quite understanding the process but will cross that bridge if or when I come to it.
