Workflow Wait Times

I’m just preparing my next message to add to my workflow that will actually be my first newsletter.

I was going to put the wait time as 30 days instead of using the broadcast, but some months have 31 days and February has 28 days.

What should I do to combat that?

Hello Sue,

If you would like your messages to send on a specific date and time then it would be best to schedule that out as a Broadcast. You can schedule those out in advance so you don’t necessarily need to add the message into your workflow.

If you would rather add the message into your workflow, I would suggest using either “30 days” as your wait time or “1 month” in this case.

There isn’t going to be a perfect way to combat the fact that not all months have 30 days but using this as a baseline is a good practice as 30 days would be the average amount of time for a month.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to reach back out and let us know.

Thanks!

That’s great Heather, thank you so much.

I’ve just added a message to my automation. Does 1 month mean 1 month from the time subscribers received their last message?

In the future, when I’m feeling more confident with the process, could I change to Broadcasts?

Hey Sue,

You are able to move your messages to Broadcasts by copying them to Drafts from your Workflow then scheduling them as needed. You can also create one off messages in Messages>Drafts and schedule as Broadcasts.

If you added the Wait step after the last message they got, they would have entered the 10 month wait at that point. The wait starts when they enter that wait period whether that is after the message was sent (if there is one before the wait step) or if they were currently at the end of the workflow and you added the wait, they entered the wait when you added it.

Thanks Amanda. I just realized that selecting a message and sending it from Send Messages probably would have been the way to go rather than the Workflow, then I could send out a new message on the 15th of each month. But then I’d go back to the very first problem of new subscribers (say a few months after starting this campaign) not receiving those previous messages?

Sorry for all these questions. I’m probably confusing you as well as myself!

Hey Sue,

Broadcasts are for time sensitive messages (or messages you need to go out on a specific date and time). Workflows would be for messages that don’t need to go out on specific dates.

You can also send a broadcast and then later copy it back to drafts and add it into your workflow as workflows are open ended.

Thanks Amanda, appreciate your help! I like the idea of being able to being able to copy the broadcasts back into drafts and adding them to my Workflow.
