Sending 2nd (and subsequent) email(s) in a workflow only if the previous alternate email is opened after a split path

I have a automation workflow with 6 emails.

I know how to split the path after email 1 into those who opened and those who did not open email 1

I then know how to send an alternate email 1 to those who did not open.

For those who then open the alternate email 1, how do I then return them to the main workflow so that they then receive email 2 (and not return them to the start of the workflow so that they receive email #1 again)?

I want to then repeat this same split path process after each of the main workflow emails 2, sending an alternate email to those who don’t open and then ONLY sending the next email in the main flow to those who open the alternate email 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 after not opening the main one.

Is this even possible? Can it be handled in the one workflow? Or do I have to create multiple workflows for each new step and have each workflow triggered by a different tag based on the actions in other workflows. This seems like A LOT of work for something that doesn’t seem too difficult in concept.

Doe my question make sense?

Can anyone help please?

Is this even possible to do in aweber? Or do I have to look elsewhere for a solution?

Hi Adrian. Welcome to the Community!

Once a split path is created and a subscriber follows one pathway, there is no way to return them to the main email sequence in the other split path. You also cannot merge split paths. So, if a subscriber takes pathway B instead of pathway A because they did not open the initial message, you must add the future messages you want them to receive within pathway B, as they cannot return to pathway A. Alternatively, as you mentioned, you could create a new workflow based on a tag to add them, but it may be easier to add the same messages from pathway A to pathway B at a certain point.
