Subdomain for multiple businesses Issue

When I set up my Aweber account I just had the one business. I’ve now added a second and created a separate mailing list with new contacts etc. The problem I have is that the subdomain lists my original business domain for all of the lists. The businesses aren’t connected and I don’t want them linked. How do I go about unpicking this to create separation of subdomain? I’m worried of accidentally doing something that will cause more problems. Thanks.

Hi Nikki,

The subdomain is an account-wide setting for your landing pages. If you’re managing multiple businesses within the same AWeber account, it’s best to use branding for the subdomain that matches the branding for both businesses, such as a parent company.

That being said, setting up a custom domain is the best way to build trust with your landing pages, as they will be fully branded for your business. You can purchase a domain through a domain provider and configure that domain for use with your landing pages. This will allow each business to have its own branding, separate from any other businesses you may be managing within the same account.

Thanks for your reply, Justin. If I’ve understood correctly, there’s nothing I can do about the subdomain other than purchasing an overarching domain which will just make both business communications look odd and show a connection. I can register a separate domain for aesthetic branding but the name of my first company will appear in any AWeber landing page url and email tracking link of my second business? It’s the email tracking link that is mainly the problem for me as I am using non Aweber landing pages (which I presume won’t be affected by this)? Please correct me if I’ve misunderstood anything, and thanks again for your help.

Hi Nikki,

If you set up a custom domain for your second business, then that custom domain can be used just for your landing pages on the list associated with that business, rather than using one domain for both businesses. After obtaining the domain, you would need to configure it for use with your landing pages.

When it comes to branding in your emails, this can be completely separate for each list. When you design the emails for each list, those emails can have separate links and images when you create them, so subscribers would never know that they’re in the same account as your other business.

The click tracking links in your emails will always use clicks.aweber.com, so you won’t have to worry about the branding from your landing pages impacting your click tracking.

Thanks Justin. I’ve added a subdomain of my 2nd business domain to the ‘create a new domain’ section and added the provided CNAME file to the domain DNS. I now have an account subdomain showing my first business domain and an additional domain showing my 2nd business name. Fingers crossed, everything will now now go smoothly. Thanks again for your help.
