Sometimes in business and in your personal life, you need to step back from certain things and come back later. When it comes to email marketing, you can do that, but it’s best to continue to engage with your list often to ensure that your subscribers don’t lose interest in your content.
If you do take a break from your marketing, here are a few things to keep in mind when it’s time for your return:
-
Emails have a lifespan of 6-12 months. So, if you haven’t emailed your subscribers in a while, make sure to clear out any inactive subscribers before you start sending emails again. Not doing so will lead to spam complaints and bounces, which will impact your sending overall.
-
If you’ve been growing your list or had new sign-ups while you were away, only email those who joined in the last 3-6 months. Reaching out to people who signed up prior to that is likely to generate spam complaints as they haven’t heard from you.
-
Once you’ve cleaned up your list, run a re-engagement campaign for your existing subscribers. This will let them know you’re back and help you find out who’s still interested in hearing from you! Selling something? Offer a promo code to encourage repeat sales!
If you have people no longer interested, you can then remove them from your list and focus on the ones who are.
