Make sure to regularly engage with your audience. You don’t want to send so infrequently that your audience forgets about you. On the flip side, you also don’t want to send emails to your list so frequently that they get overwhelmed.

When determining how often to send, think about the expectations you’re setting for your audience and put yourself in their shoes. You can even poll your audience for more context about what they want to receive and how often they want to receive it!

Branding! When your goal is to inspire your audience to take action, it’s essential to let them get to know you. Consistent branding helps build trust and confidence, increasing engagement and conversions.

A great strategy is to use an image from your website as a header in your emails and a personal headshot in the footer or signature. This consistency reinforces your brand identity and makes your messages more recognizable. Many customers have found success with this approach, leading to higher click rates and purchases.

We also offer a way to brand easily within AWeber. You can save you text style and colors of choice!

Strong, cohesive branding is a powerful way to connect with your audience—start with consistency and watch your impact grow!

Let your audience pick how frequently they’d like to get emails. Giving the subscribers the option to choose at sign up will lead to more engagement since they’ll be able to set how often they hear from you.

Maybe they want to hear from you once a week, maybe they want an email everyday. Let them choose what’s best for them.

This will also keep your subscribers hyped and ready to get the content you have to offer!

After 25 years in email marketing, I have seen one truth hold up time and time again. The best emails are not about you, they are about your audience.

Too many businesses focus on what they want to say instead of what their subscribers actually want to hear. The best emails feel personal, relevant, and valuable, not just another sales pitch.

If you are not getting the results you want, ask yourself:

  • Would I open this email if it landed in my inbox?
  • Does it solve a problem, answer a question, or make life easier for my audience?
  • Am I building a relationship or just checking a box?

Your list is not just a group of contacts. It is made up of real people with real challenges and real goals. The more you treat them like people instead of subscribers, the better your emails will perform.

Keep your email focused with one clear call to action. Too many choices can overwhelm subscribers, making them less likely to take action.

Use buttons instead of plain hyperlinks. They’re more eye-catching and drive more clicks. Adding a sense of urgency (like limited-time offers or exclusive deals) can also encourage immediate engagement.

Maintaining your list is just as important as growing it, if not more so. Mailbox providers pay close attention to which of their users are receiving your messages and how many of them are interacting with the content. A large list may get your message out to more people in theory, but if a significant portion of the list ignores your message, not only will those individuals not see what you have to say, but that broader lack of engagement can inform the mailbox provider’s spam filters that your content is not wanted and may affect other subscribers’ ability to receive your messages successfully. This effect is magnified by larger and larger lists of recipients - the bigger the volume of mail sent, the more attention it will get from filters.

Lists tend to get larger as time goes on, with some degree of attrition from older subscribers losing interest with your email, which is why we recommend periodically cleaning your list of non-openers on a regular basis, whether that’s annually, every 6 months, or every 3 months. Not only will you be removing people who are no longer paying attention to your content, but you will be improving your chances of newer signups seeing and interacting with your future messages.

The best way I’ve found to grab attention and stand out is to focus on what makes you unique—your story, your value, and why people should care.

In email marketing, I’ve seen huge wins just by using subject lines that spark curiosity and messages that feel personal and genuinely helpful. And above all, staying consistent with your brand and how you show up for your audience builds trust and keeps you top of mind.
