Hi there. I’m just getting started with the new-fangled AWeber. I’d love some feedback on best practices. To set the context:
I have a newsletter that is not associated with AWeber lists. (Ghost)
I have a digital product on a platform that integrates with AWeber.
I built a mini-course as an AWeber campaign.
The course is designed to help my newsletter readers, if they opt in to AWeber. The course also can help motivate post-purchase users of the digital product.
My challenge is twofold:
- Send newsletter readers to Landing Page “X”, where they can opt in to the mini-course campaign.
- Use automation rules to move buyers from the AWeber “welcome” campaign (single email) to the mini-course campaign.
While the first challenge is easy enough, I couldn’t find an easy way to link the campaigns.
I don’t think I need a separate list but, if I’m wrong, I would like to understand the simplest workflow for getting post-sale buyers automatically added to the mini-course, without having to send them to Landing Page “X”.
Cheers,
Mitch
Welcome back Mitchell! Times have changed, but you’ll see some familiar faces.
You shouldn’t need a second list, best practice is to use a single list profile and just use tags to segment people into different campaigns.
You didn’t mention where you’re selling your digital product so I’m not sure what integration that is. Ideally, that platform supports being able to add tags to subscribers when they are sent to AWeber. If so, I’d suggest adding a tag like “puzzle-buyer” or something appropriate to the specific product you’re selling.
Then in your welcome campaign, use the campaign options on the right side to remove subscriber that have the “puzzle-buyer” tag.
From there, just make your second campaign for the mini-course and have it trigger based on someone getting the “puzzle-buyer” tag.
Should be pretty straight forward, if you run into issues update here, or get in touch with our team via email, chat, or phone. Contact Us | AWeber

Hi Tom,
I’m using Warrior Plus. It does not seem to allow adding tags. However, after thinking through this a bit, I realized that the welcome-campaign tag can serve the same purpose!
The only thing I want to clarify is that these triggers run in parallel. If they don’t then, when the Welcome sequence is initiated, and the welcome-campaign tag is removed, the Mini-course sequence won’t ever “see” the welcome-campaign tag (which is standing in for your suggested puzzle-buyer tag.)
[edited] Ugh. I see the problem. My Welcome Campaign was designed with the book buyers in mind. After I set up my landing page with a New Subscriber trigger, I should be looking for “welcomed” tag.
However, the landing page also triggers the Welcome Campaign, because the form generates a new subscriber.
So, I have a new question: how do I create a different automation for the landing page form, so that new subscribers don’t trigger the book buyers’ welcome campaign, but the mini-course campaign instead?
Cheers,
Mitch
Solved
For anyone reading this thread, I managed to cobble together all the parts as Tom suggested. The key is to use filters. Otherwise, all subscriber submissions will trigger the welcome campaign.
This is the default behavior. That’s why my landing page for the mini-course sent signups to the welcome campaign for my buyers.
To keep this from happening,
- Click Automation
- Edit your Welcome Campaign
- Click Start Campaign: On Subscribe
- Click Add Filter
- In first drop-down, select Source
- Make sure the second drop-down shows is
- In the third drop-down, select API
This is specifically for segmenting the list between buyers, who usually get added to your list via API integration, and subscribers who are added to your list from landing pages.
To trigger the mini-course campaign, make sure that the Start Campaign: Tag Applied uses the same tag generated by the signup form! This was a tricky part of the puzzle.
If you created an AWeber landing page for your signup form, you have to edit it and then click on the form to bring up the form settings. From there, click on the Submission tab, which is where you can do the following:
- Link to your Thank You Page
- Link to your Already Subscribed Page
- Add Tags
Add a tag that matches the tag used for the mini-course Start Campaign: Tag Applied
I used really descriptive tags, just in case I go through all this again with a new campaign.
