Before you start sending out emails, it’s important to set them up in a way that drives engagement and makes a lasting impact on your subscribers.
Most emails include a mix of text and images—or just text. While you can send emails that are purely image-based (like a single large image), this approach isn’t recommended. Why? Because image-only emails are harder to track for engagement and are more likely to be filtered out of inboxes. To improve deliverability and engagement, it’s best to use a balanced mix of text and images, or stick to text-only emails.
If you want to include images in your email, we recommend keeping a ratio of at least 80% text and 20% images. This ensures your email remains readable, accessible, and less likely to be filtered to spam. Too many images (especially without supporting text) can increase the chances of your email getting filtered before it even reaches your audience.
If you want to customize fonts, colors, and overall design—or include clickable links—you’ll need to create an HTML-based email. You can easily do this using the Drag-and-Drop Email Builder or the HTML editor (the latter would require some coding knowledge).
On the other hand, if you’re considering sending a Plain Text email, be aware that while it might seem simple and effective, it has limitations. Plain Text emails don’t support images, templates, or text styling, and any links you include will appear in their full URL form. More importantly, they’re more likely to get filtered out of inboxes.
So what option should I go with?
The best format for your email depends on your goal. If you’re selling, a well-designed email with images and text can help showcase your offering and encourage purchases.
If you’re sharing updates about your business (or yourself) a more text-heavy email can be great for delivering information, but adding an image or using a clean email template can make it more engaging.
At the end of the day, your email format should align with what resonates most with your audience.
