AI Newsletter Assistant Editing and Send Test and switching from Blog Automation

Hi Friends,

AI Newsletter Assistant (AI NA) is pretty cool and I keep learning more ways to use it! The email prompts are helpful. If I like them, and I always do it I read them or engage and give it

suggestions, its even more compelling to use, heres what I’ve been doing lately.

How I Switch Between Blog Automation and AI Newsletter Assistant

I delay my Automated blog campaign, (which is another awesome Newsletter sending automation that sends new items or blog posts if there is 1 new item/post), by simply changing the day

to send ( example: yesterday’s day of the week so I have a whole week to change it back

  • never mind its simpler then it sounds then me trying to describe it).

Then I schedule a send of the AI NA final edited version Ive tested and saved to draft. I schedule it for the usual Blog Automation Sending time (3 am Monday - changed to 3 am Sun). this

way my subscribers continue to get the newsletter as they have expected, once a what ever (week, months, etc.

This is how I can easily switch back and forth depending on how much time I want to spend on this weeks Newsletter. AI NA takes longer for me (dues to the issues below in not saving

edits) compared to Blog Automation, depending on how easy the blog posts are (for the blog automation).

This last time, because I gave AI NA lots of suggestions off the top of my head, with no content or links, what it came up with was so well written I wanted to use it. However, I had to keep

editing in AI NA to add the links and important missing content. Sadly, it would not save the last edit when I added a new one. See below issues.

So now I want to discuss my experience with others and hear our community experiences with Newsletter Assistant, editing, send test, etc.

Issues and Workarounds with Send Test and Editing with AI NA

  1. Send Test. Today I learned that the Send Test in the upper right on newsletter_assistant page, (under Actions on small screens) does not ask for who (what

email) you want to send the test newsletter to like a draft message does with the name field option. It loads then returns you to the same page and AI tells you its sent to your email and on

checkin my inbox, I find Subject: Newsletter Review: (subject line) and the message is sent under a box with 2 blue buttons in it reading:

Review and schedule this week’s newsletter

We drafted this week’s newsletter for your list NW Permaculture Convergence for Assurance Services.

  1. Click [“Make Changes”] to update the topic or make edits to the content.
  2. When you’re ready, click [“Schedule]”] to choose when to send it or “Save as Draft” to send it later.

(the buttons are: )

  1. Editing with AI Newsletter Assistant (AI NA):
  • Issue 1: Some times it doesn’t save your edit and is lost, keeping only the last version but not previous edits or versions. My workaround (might be a good idea anyway to keep your

changes - cause FYI, once you save to draft its no longer in the Assistant, unless you copy the draft message in and tell AI to start with that)… is to Send Test. Then you have a copy to

paste back into the Newsletter assistant (NA for short, or AI NA).

SUMMARY TIP: As I edit with AI NA, save copies of your edits either in drafts or in emails using Send Test. the later will still be in the AI NA, but not drafts. So, Either way, you may have

to tell AI NA to replace the entire message with your what you copy and paste into it. Sadly, if you have many edits, in different emails of drafts you may have to build it peice by peice

yourself in a draft message anyway.

  • Issue 2: Links are not blue and do not look like clickable links in the email when you send test, though they look blue in AI NA.

Note to Moderators:
If this Topic is best part of another discussion on AI Newsletter Assistant tags (24+ I recall?), please lets do that (move? link?). Ideally we can link to relevant discussions and questions with

in our New Topics with what is relevant. And thanks team for the “Your Topic is similar to…” box on the right as I write this. Im new here in the community (been using chat and phone

support for decades), so learning the ropes here.

I may come back and edit this if I can.

Today the AI NA just hung on the 1st edit. Its just lost.
Did it 2 times and lever finished.

Luckliy I had 1) saved my fix edit suggestions for AI and 2) I had send a Test and could click Schedule from email. From there I was able to edit as a draft message with no risk of loss while editing with AI NA.

Another Tip: When you send a Test from the AI NA, the email Review has a link to “Talk to Us” that leads to a very generous schedular to meet for 20 minutes and she has many times most days of the week - very generous to be able to talk to an AI Newsletter Assistant pro.

Hey Russ,

Interesting workflow to pause your blog automation to make room for your newsletter assistant messages. I’m curious if you may have more flexibility with your audience. For instance, if they’re interested and engaged, you may be able to send your weekly blog content along with your other newsletter later in the week.

Also, feel free to link me to your blog. I’m curious how frequently you post new content. Some bloggers time their posting with their other communications.

It’s really great that you’ve set expectations among your audience. You could also gauge which of them want to hear from you more frequently, and create a segment of those people.

It sounds like you have some issues with newsletter assistant. Which would you say is the most pressing for you?

Nice reply Dave! Thank you!

I did send the next weeks late (Tuesday afternoon instead of Monday 3 am. and got over 800 opens high 30 to 40%. Past years I used to sedn Monthly or twice a month, timed with Community Zoom meeting and monthly Speakers. There is so much content to share from our Permaculture community, that it is hard to keep up on the blog posts. When I do, the blog automation is perfect and I can always edit the footer for unique PSs (like asking for Newsletter help).

My “blog” is not pretty - still need to setup “Read More” Links in Divi but here it is and thanks for your interest: Newsletter | Northwest Permaculture Convergence
Interesting idea to combine AI NA and blog automation. I found myself tempted into using the NA again this last week, pause my blog automation to make room for newsletter assistant messages.

I’ve often considered going thru the Newsletters and tagging those who respond - maybe I could get a Higher then 50% response rate if I only sent to them weekly and sent to the whole list less like Monthly. I’d love to learn how to allow readers to choose how often they get our Newsletter or if they could sub-list them selves based on a digest frequency or category topic maybe?

My most pressing issues with newsletter assistant - not saving the last edit or edit suggestions even when it never completes a edit request. It would be great to have a record of the edits and requests like ChatGPT. Testing helps to save good stuff already written or edited to perfection.

How about you?
