Would you like to know how you can have a higher open rate? Here is what works for us:
-
Be very specific about what subscribers can expect
When they know what they are going to receive from you, they will be looking forward to your email. Surprise them. Overdeliver. Give them something special they are not expecting -
Use {!firstname_fix}
We use it either in the Subject line or in the Preview text for our weekly newsletter. Obviously we use it after Hello {!firstname_fix}. But we also use it one other time in the middle of the newsletter so it makes them feel like it’s a personal email sent to them. -
Use Questions
We’ve found that using a question in the Preview text has a higher open rate. We also use a question occasionally in the Subject Line -
Respond to Replies
When we receive an email from a subscriber, we respond back within 24 hours. . -
Hyperlink
We include hyperlinks to our website or other resources. -
Track what works
Over the years, we look at the Sent Broadcasts Stats. You’ll find patterns that work really well. We send out our Newsletter on Thursday evening at 6 PM, and many open it within the hour. We have also discovered the timing of sending them near Holidays. You’ll have to experiment with that. -
Emojis in Subject Line
Use these once in a while and track which ones work well. -
CAPITALIZE one word in the Subject Line
This has worked really well.
9. Use … at the end of the Subject line
This creates curiosity. They want to know what the rest of the story is. For example, One of the BEST decisions to make…
- 5-8 words in Subject line
This has been our sweet spot. Less than 5 words has a far lower open rate.
Hopefully, this encourages you and that you can start applying these tips this week. Let us know which one(s) you’ll start using now.
